Student Timeline for the Career Path 

Concerning ALL students

  • Your student will receive one annual Transcript Review each year beginning in the spring of 9th-grade continuing each year through graduation.
  • Every student should use a Planning Sheet and complete all 4 years.
  • Students who wish to take credentialed exams can take these exams at any time when the student feels ready to do so.
  • If there is any chance your student will want to attend college after graduation, please check with prospective colleges for admissions requirements. There is additional information below specifically for students who want to continue their education at a 2-year or 4-year college.

  1. Complete a High School Planning Sheet.
  2. Watch for 9th-grade Transcript Review in the spring. 
  3. Make any corrections based on your student’s Transcript Review.
  4. Review Graduation Requirements.
  5. Review Career Path information on our website.
  6. Refer to Awards and Scholarships for helpful information.
  7. Take a look at HLA’s available Honors Programs.
  8. Use your student’s 9th-grade Transcript Review to plan 10th-grade courses.

  4. Make necessary corrections in Applecore ASAP
  5. Request a Driver’s License Form  (14 business days) before needed.
  6. Help your student identify and strengthen academic areas that need to be improved.
  7. Take a look at HLA’s available Honors Programs.
  8. If your student plans on attending a college after graduation:
    1. Consider taking PSAT for practice (October)
    2. Consider taking the ACT in the late spring as a “practice”.
    3. Start visiting college campuses this summer.
    4. Continue to save for college and investigate financial aid resources.
    5. Refer to Awards and Scholarships for helpful information.
  9. Use your 10th-grade Transcript Review when planning for 11th-grade. 

 

  1. Use your student’s 10th-grade Transcript Review to plan 11th-grade courses.
  2. Watch for your upcoming 11th-grade Transcript Review sometime during the 11th-grade year.
  3. Compare the transcript review with student’s planning sheet
  4. Make corrections ASAP.
  5. Make note of any remaining courses needed to meet graduation and/or college admissions requirements.
  6. URGENT – Make sure all courses, course titles, grades, and credits are 100% correct in Applecore. Including attendance. 
  7. NO revisions will be allowed once HLA has sent official transcripts. 
  8. If your student plans on attending a college after graduation:
    1. Refer to Awards and Scholarships for helpful information. 
    2. Take a look at HLA’s available Honors Programs.
    3. Take PSAT in October to compete to be a National Merit Scholar.
    4. Take the ACT or SAT at least once in the fall and once or twice in the spring.
    5. If your student will be taking dual enrollment courses fax forms to HLA. 
    6. Research and find dates of college fairs in your area.
    7. Begin researching colleges: note any due dates for applications, scholarships, etc.
    8. Check admissions requirements for prospective colleges.

  9. Check with your local homeschool organization concerning graduation activities as some organizations require membership prior to the senior year.
  10. Use the 11th-grade Transcript Review when planning for 12th-grade.

  1. DO NOT REQUEST A DIPLOMA UNTIL ALL COURSES ARE COMPLETE AND FINAL GRADES HAVE BEEN ENTERED.
  2. Use your student’s 11th-grade Transcript Review to plan 12th-grade courses.
  3. Watch for your student’s 12th-grade Transcript Review sometime during his/her 12th-grade year.
  4. Compare the Transcript Review with your student’s High School Planning Sheet.
  5. Make any needed corrections ASAP.
  6. Students can do a 5th-year if needed to meet graduation requirements or other goals. 
  7. If your student plans on attending a college after graduation:
    1. Double check college admissions requirements and verify that your student has all required courses needed for college admissions and graduation.
    2. If your student will be taking Dual Enrollment courses complete forms and fax to HLA.
    3. Fill out your FAFSA form as soon as possible after October 1

TN Students (who plan on attending a 2-year college)

  1. Fill out TN Promise Application by November 1. (Online application available Aug 1-Nov 1)
  2. Fill out your FAFSA form as soon as possible beginning October 1 – January 17 of your senior year.
  3. College applications are due beginning in October.
  4. Verify that your student has all required courses needed for college admissions.
  5. Request official transcripts from HLA at least 3 weeks before the deadline. Specify if you want the Portfolio sent with the first transcript you send. 
  6. Request Recommendation Letters if needed. Contact Lani. 
  7. Apply for all colleges and scholarships by the posted due date; earlier if possible.
  8. If you have not taken the ACT/SAT take it as soon as possible.
    • HLA students must get a 21 on the ACT to qualify for the TN HOPE Scholarship.

Diploma

  1. Request your student’s diploma once all high school courses and requirements are complete, and final grades are entered into AppleCore. Refer to Steps for Graduation for additional information. 
  2. Request Final transcripts to be sent to the college AFTER you have requested the diploma.
  3. URGENT – Make sure all courses, course titles, grades, and credits are 100% correct in Applecore.
  4. NO revisions will be allowed once HLA has sent official transcripts.
