With each month’s newsletter, we feature two members of our wonderful records or counseling team members here at HomeLife so that you can get to know them! This month, we would like to introduce you to Founder and President, David Parkerson, and Counseling Support Bob Broadus.
David and his wife, April, founded HomeLife Academy. David’s passion for homeschooling can be traced back to 1988, when his mother began homeschooling his younger brother, Tyler, who after years of struggling in a traditional school finally began to thrive as a home school student. David holds a double bachelors degree in Bible and Family Studies from Lipscomb University, and a masters degree in Family Studies from Abilene Christian University. While pursuing his masters degree, David said he came to learn that “home education was the best therapy there is for a family.” David felt God’s call to start a private school that would serve homeschool families, and HomeLife opened for enrollment in 2003.
David and April now have six children, all of whom they teach at home. David enjoys still being able to date his wife after fourteen years of marriage! They love to travel to small, quaint towns together and antique shop. The whole family enjoys outdoor adventures such as fishing, hiking, and exploring. David is a self-proclaimed “AFOL,” adult fan of Legos, a pastime he shares with his sons. He also enjoys fellowship with friends, often hosting get-togethers at his home. David continues to play an active role as HomeLife Academy grows and reaches more families, just as he has for eleven years!
Bob Broadus, along with his wife Phyllis, has worked for HomeLife for three years. He serves as support for the counseling team and also handles social security matters and provides technical support. He is also known (and loved) around the office for always making sure we have a supply of chocolate! Bob grew up in Illinois and holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois. He and Phyllis have two daughters. Both daughters are home school and college graduates and one is now married.
Bob formerly worked in software for a telecommunications company. He and Phyllis are active members of Old Hickory Church of Christ in Jackson, Tennessee. He enjoys singing in a local barbershop chorus which he has been a part of for 20 years. Bob says that the best part of his job at HomeLife is getting to work alongside his wife!
