With each month’s newsletter, we feature two members of our wonderful records or counseling team members here at HomeLife so that you can get to know them! Sometimes it’s nice to put a face with those that you speak with. This month, we would like to introduce you to Phyllis Broadus, counselor, and records team member Kennedy Mckee.
Phyllis Broadus is our in-house counselor, helping families with K-8th students and also answering our online chat service located on our website and in Applecore. She also teaches Language Arts classes with HomeLife Tutorial and does individual tutoring with some students. Phyllis came to HomeLife with 25 years of experience as a public school teacher (having taught elementary, special education, and music) and 15 years of homeschooling experience, and is a great aid to families just starting out or making the transition into homeschooling.
Phyllis has been married to her husband, Bob, for 27 years. They have two adult daughters, both HomeLife and college graduates, one of whom is now married. When she is not busy serving HomeLife families as a counselor, teacher, and tutor, she enjoys reading, crocheting, and traveling. Most of her traveling is focused on visiting friends and family members that are scattered throughout the United States.
Phyllis says that being part of the HomeLife staff is her favorite part of her job, as she enjoys working amongst others who share her passion for homeschooling. She also enjoys talking to a parents on a daily basis and helping to guide them through their home education experiences. Her advice to new homeschoolers is to “Start slow and easy, at a comfortable pace, until you gradually gain that steady pace of perseverance.”
Kennedy works in our records office, serving our families by processing withdrawals, making student ID cards, and sending out driver’s license forms and work permits. Kennedy has worked at HomeLife since 2012. Her mom, Angela, also works at HomeLife, and Kennedy is a HomeLife graduate, who was homeschooled through her entire elementary and high school education.
Kennedy has three younger sisters, all of them current HomeLife students. She is a great animal lover and has two dogs and two cats. She enjoys spending her free time hanging out with friends, playing video games, and watching anime. She also enjoys writing and has an interest in theatre and martial arts, having competed in several martial arts tournaments. Her favorite parts of working at HomeLife are the flexibility, the relaxing environment, and the great coworkers!
