HLA Board President and Founders

April and I are incredibly blessed.  We started HomeLife Academy with the purpose of furthering the Kingdom of God through homeschooling, but never in our wildest visions could we have imagined it would be where it is now.  April & I have an amazing group of folks working for us, and it seems like we’re adding new people all the time!

I love the families we get serve. I love our staff and I love my wonderful wife and kids. But most of all I love the Lord. HLA is a tremendous blessing to us. These days I get to help lead a group of wonderful managers, team leaders, counselors, and staff. We pray together and make decisions together. I may sign the diplomas but there is a great big family working really hard everyday to help get your students to that point. Like I said, I’m incredibly blessed. ~David

My wife Lynn and I have two adult aged children that we homeschooled from their beginnings. We loved the freedom and flexibility homeschooling provided in that it gave us the freedom to train our children in the ways of the Lord, to travel together as a family, and to make life our classroom. Our homeschooling was a team effort. Together we provided character and spiritual training as well as academic training. While working as an Engineer and a Division Director at USDA’s Cotton Program in Memphis, Tennessee, Lynn managed the day to day homeschooling responsibilities. Given my educational and occupational experience as an engineer, I contributed to the more technical sides of their educations by providing them an appreciation of math and science. It was such a blessing to watch our children discover and develop their God given talents as they pursued their interests and passions. Our daughter graduated from HLA in 2010, graduated from college in 2014 with a degree in math and physics, and is now married to a wonderful Godly young man. Our son graduated from HLA in 2014 and is currently in college earning a degree in business computer systems. Seeing the fruit in our children’s lives as a result of homeschooling continues to bring us joy.

Lynn and I had the privilege of being part of HLA from the very beginning when the Lord first gave David and April the vision for a homeschooling ministry. There was no other ministry like it and the need for a ministry based educational service was tremendous. Today HLA provides essential resources and leadership to the homeschooling community. It is an honor to continue being part of a ministry that is making a difference in the lives of homeschooling families around the world.

My wife Kris and I have been married since 1993 and have 9 children who were born from 1996 through 2012, and we have homeschooled from the beginning.  The Lord led us into homeschooling through struggles to get our first two kids to daycare and/or grandmother’s while Kris worked as a personal trainer.  The strain of this daily, expensive juggling act caused us to look around for other approaches, and we discovered homeschooling.  We loved the sheltering that it provided through the formative years, the flexibility, and the opportunity to have our children grow up learning their worldview from us.

Kris left her career as a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritional Consultant to come home full time, and our research led us to be influenced by Raymond and Dorothy Moore’s homeschooling philosophies and Growing Kids God’s Way’s parenting approach.  Additionally, we have utilized a local tutorial with Whole Heart Family Ministries, Boy Scouts of America (our 2 oldest boys attained the rank of Eagle, and the next 2 are close to finishing), and Martial Arts (our 4 oldest boys and myself have all attained the rank of Black Belt). Our oldest son graduated from HLA in 2014, and our second oldest will graduate from HLA in 2016.

While homeschooling 9 children certainly has it’s challenges, Kris and I are very happy with the fruit that the Lord has developed thus far, and our plan is to continue to homeschool all of them through high school.

My wife Stacey & I have been married since 1987 and by the grace of God have 5 children, born from 1992 – 2003.  We launched into home education when our oldest 2 children entered 6th & 3rd grades respectively; our youngest 3 have grown up entirely in the homeschool environment.  Our oldest graduated university in 2014; our second child is currently a junior, and our third is graduating this year as a member of HLA’s first flight of totally homeschooled graduates and God-willing will serve the next 2 years as a missionary apprentice before entering university.  Our youngest 2 are still being nurtured in the environment fostered by our God, our home, & HLA.

We see the fruit daily of Father’s blessing on our decision to train & educate our children at home.  We had several hopes that prompted our decision, but healthy spiritual formation of children was our greatest desire.  I’d never describe homeschooling as easy, but rewarding is the word that dominates above all others.

After answering the call to ministry in college, we’ve been in ministry & missions in the U.S. & South Africa ever since.  I’m currently in a bi-vocational season — I roast coffee to support my ministry habit.

To anyone reading this, whether currently a member family of HLA or perhaps just exploring possibilities, feel free to reach out to me if there is anything you’d like to ask.  It is extremely humbling to serve with you alongside my fellow board members & the HLA team,, whom I hold in increasingly high regard the longer I see God’s work among us.

Thank you in advance for remembering us all in prayer.  We are partners together with you!
