Senior Administrator – Daily Operations, Financial Affairs, Business Management
I began working with HomeLife Academy in 2011 looking for extra part-time work to help my family. My husband and I were working our own business and I was homeschooling our four girls. It didn’t take long to see what a wonderful ministry and company I found myself associated with and immediately moved into a more permanent, full-time position with HLA. With my husband being on disability and our business becoming harder and harder for him to be able to work, this was an awesome opportunity for me to help support our family and to also do something I love. I have worked in management, accounting and business for many years and enjoy contributing to and seeing businesses grow.
Homeschooling my girls has always been my desire and through working at HLA I have been able to continue doing that as well. My oldest daughter graduated from HomeLife Academy in 2013 and is currently working for HLA. I have a daughter that is a Senior this year and has been a part of the Student Intern Team. I have two other daughters currently in middle and elementary school. I have worked in the Records Department moving into a Team Leader position and on to Assistant Administrator. I have recently assumed the role of Senior Administrator handling the day to day operations of HLA as well as taking care of the accounting and financial tasks for the company. One of my greatest joys at HLA is meeting the needs of our staff. We have an incredible group of people that surround me everyday with laughter, encouragement and friendship. I find working for them and making their jobs easier fulfills me. Family comes first and the freedom and flexibility that HLA offers our families also flows through to our staff. It also gives us the incredible opportunity to work around those of like faith who pray and support each other and become our “other” family to lean on.
HLA Counselor since 2003
Counseling Team Leader
HLA Archway & Nest Director,
Admissions Counselor, SE Counselor,
Hello from the Knowlton family. My husband, Jimmy and I raised our two children on a small farm east of Memphis, Tennessee. Although we began teaching our children from birth, our homeschooling journey officially began in 1998 when our firstborn became school age. Our daughter, an HLA graduate, is now graduated from college and married. Through the CollegePlus program, our daughter was able to continue homeschooling while she pursued her first Bachelor’s’ degree. At eighteen years of age, she had earned her HLA High School Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 2011, she went off to college and earned a second Bachelor’s in math and physics. Our son received his HLA High School diploma in May of 2014 and is now away at college pursuing a bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems.
Over the years, there have been a couple of sayings that have helped me focus on the big picture. My husband’s grandmother used to say, “Honey, never let school get in the way of a good education”. The other was a quote I saw one time but never forgot. Einstein quoted, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school. These two sayings helped shape my philosophy of education. Homeschooling was not something our family did from 8:00-3:00, Monday through Friday; it was a way of life, every day. Instead of simply filling our children’s heads with random facts, we viewed all of life as part of their education. Consequently, we focused on the foundational skills of our children’s education and Godly character, trying to stay focused on our goals and keep a big picture perspective in mind. Ultimately, we wanted our children to be leaders, thinkers and problem solvers. We also wanted them to be able to learn information from reading, to be able to communicate effectively both verbally as well as written, and be able to understand and solve problems.
We also wanted our children to learn how to learn, as well as be self-disciplined, self-motivated, and able to take responsibility for their own education. Most importantly, We wanted to keep a balance between academics and allowing our children to pursue whatever God was calling them to be. By prayerfully choosing the most important formal academics (reading, writing, and arithmetic), we allowed more time for them to pursue their areas of interests, gifts, and talents. In addition, they had time to travel and be very involved in church and leadership activities. Although our children’s education looked different from our friends’ children, whether homeschooling or not, it was unique to our family. It enabled our children to discover and develop their passions as they began to seek God’s will for their lives.
Homeschooling was a learning adventure for my husband and me as well……We learned to listen more to the voice of the Holy Spirit for guidance and to pray for Godly wisdom. In addition, we learned not to worry so much about what everyone else was doing but rather to pay attention to each child’s learning style and adapt accordingly. We learned to train our children in the way God wanted them to go…not in the way my friend’s children should go. God’s plan for your child is likely very different from any other child. Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and do things differently than your friends, neighbors and relatives. God created your children uniquely and has a special plan for each one.
We are here to help you succeed with your homeschooling goals. If you need assistance my email is email@example.com.
May God bless you and your family.

Programming & Web Development
I have been with HomeLife since 2009. I’m here behind the scenes managing our web servers and overseeing the continual development of our sites and grade reporting system. I am passionate about technology and I’m passionate about seeking ways to use it that will simplify our homeschooling lives and allow us to focus on our kids education. My wife, Jennifer, and I reside in Melbourne, FL, and have two wonderful boys that we are homeschooling.
Co-Founder of HLA
Director of Marketing & Public Relations, Board Secretary,
Events Planner, International & Domestic Groups Liaison
When David and I started HomeLife Academy in 2003, we were just a couple of young kids with little babies, *zero* practical homeschool experience, and a whole lot of faith that God would bless this idea He gave us. Since the beginning, I have done practically every job at HLA, from counseling to records secretary to finances, and everything in between, and did these jobs with either a baby in utero or nursing (and sometimes, both!).
Today, I dabble in many areas of administration – from helping out with the billing and approval teams, to helping International groups within HLA. But the part of my job I am most excited about is my position as Events Planner! I love, love, love planning all kinds of events! But mostly, I love that I can encourage and uplift our staff members so that they may, in turn, encourage and uplift our HLA families.
Through this journey, the Lord has blessed us in so many ways; not only with our 6 beautiful children, but also with our amazing staff that came along side of the two of us at just the right moment, and blessed HLA to really flourish and minister to families in a way that we could never imagine. David and I are continually blown away with how God has used HLA to bring families together. We give Him all the Glory because every good thing comes from Him, and not of our own strength.

I am also a support person to the office staff helping to fill whatever needs they may have. It gives me great joy to work with my brothers and sisters in Christ as well as the homeschooling families that are a part of HLA.

Outgoing Records – Withdrawals, Blue Eagle Store Manager,
Administrative Assistant, Billing and Communications (Email List Mgmt)
As a public school graduate, I never thought my journey in life would lead me to homeschool my kids. When my youngest was in second grade the reality of the environment my kids were immersed in every day caused us to reevaluate our schooling options. On our budget, homeschooling won hands down. We have had an amazing adventure so far. (My husband and I have two amazing and flexible kids.) Yes, there have been days full of tears and throwing our hands in the air; but there have been many more days of adventure and tons of the “best day ever”.
After a sudden job and income change, we realized that it was time for me to go back to work part-time. After a while, I got a call to come to HomeLife. It has been a blast so far. I love being able to help other homeschooling families and I love the people I get to work with every day. I currently handle the withdrawals on the Outgoing Records Team, manage our Blue Eagle Store, and serve as an administrative and billing assistant. I could never express how much of a blessing this has been for our family and how God has orchestrated it all so perfectly.
I am excited to be on this great adventure with all of you as we grow and learn what it is to homeschool. Thanks for being part of my family and welcoming me into yours.

Digital Content Producer, HLA Blogger
Although I have been homeschooling for eight years, I still consider myself a newbie; I learn so many new things each year. Before my husband, David, and I were married, we decided homeschooling was the path we would take for educating our children. It has been an interesting experience that started with us questioning our decision and culminating with a sense of confidence as we continue to listen to and lean on God for His direction in our school. Although homeschooling is a lot of work, I totally love it and am happy my three children still enjoy having me as their teacher. I am just thankful I am able to stay-at-home and learn together with my children. Our school continues to lean heavily towards Classical, with an eclectic slant. One day, I will be able to explain how that is possible, to someone.
I am a writer by profession and began working at HomeLife Academy in 2015 as the Digital Content Producer and writing the monthly newsletter. We were already an HLA family and now I am a part of the HLA team that is blessed to serve other homeschooling families like mine. I enjoy reading, the outdoors, running, too much time on the computer, sewing and taking lots and lots of pictures; just ask my children. When I am not at the chalkboard, you may find me writing for Tennessee families at Kid Madison, a blog for kids, teens and families, and at Homeschool Roster, a listing of field trips, educational and fun events and news for homeschoolers.
HLA launched its student intern program in January 2016, with a focus on growing its marketing team. It is a program that will continue through the summer and is open to HLA juniors and seniors in the areas of communications/social media, graphic design, photography, and videography.
The 2016/2017 Student Intern Team is under the leadership of Kait Martin, a Senior at Union University, graduating in the Spring with a degree in Public Relations. Her team consists of HLA Students Hannah Gatti (Graphic Design-Media), Hannah Jones (Graphic Design-Yearbook), Kailey McKee (Photography), , Nathan Parkerson (Videography), and Madeline Rudder (Social Media).
The interns meet with the HLA Leadership Team and other staff to discuss marketing related topics in the areas of Social Media Management, Photography, Videography and Graphic Design. They also attend mini-sessions throughout the semesters presented by working professionals in the marketing field, who discuss many different topics.
HLA wants the intern program to be a real learning experience for students. As with all aspects of homeschooling, we believe hands-on application is often the best way for that to happen. Students may also earn academic credit for the position.
2015/2016 – Under the team leadership of Hannah Hartig, an HLA graduate and current Marketing and Public Relations major at Union University, HLA students Eli Chamley, Alyssa Hartig, Kailey McKee and Jerrica Voyles are the first team of students to participate in this student intern opportunity.
